Playgroups – Wellington

What is a Supported Playgroup (SPPI)?

Uniting Care Gippsland Sale office co-ordinates the Supported Playgroups for the Wellington Shire. Playgroup Victoria also works with Uniting Care Gippsland in providing these playgroups in the Wellington Shire area. UCG looks at providing SPPI in communities that may have rural or remote access to playgroups, vulnerable families, indigenous communities, families with challenges or children with additional needs are some examples. By offering these playgroups it provides the community with a place to go with like- minded families along with community networking this can be part of this weekly/fortnightly playgroup.

Supported playgroups also have a qualified play leader setting up for the play sessions co-ordinating it, this provides the foundations for quality and child orientated age appropriate experiences. Supported playgroup leaders are guided by what the group wants you may like to be part of the setting up, read a story or bring in an item of interest to share. Playgroups are a time for sharing play ideas or time to spend with the child in a neutral non-judgemental setting. Playgroups models can vary by being more structured with a routine or are flexible in their time depending on who is attending and what the groups would like.  Supported playgroups in Wellington Shire are listed below, we hope you may like to join of these groups or contact UCG to suggest a playgroup you may like to see in the area, UCG is always open to new ideas that they may be able to support.
